'Rude Rich and the High Notes' is a band, or rather an orchestra, which celebrates three musical styles from Jamaica-Ska (Jamaican Jazz), Rock Steady and (early) Reggae music. They play their music authentically, original, as it was being played in those days (early sixties up to early seventies).
Authentically in this case means that they don't make use of sampled computerised sounds coming from some machine to do the work of the musician. For instance, when playing Ska the bass player will make use of a standing bass (stringbass) because of it's specific sound which can't be copied by anything else. This is also relevant for the horns section, the characteristic sounds of these instru-ments can only be enjoyed if the horn is actually being blown. So, the 'High Notes' stand for musical tradition and education, showing the people how eventually reggae came about, touching on all as-pects of the three musical styles; pounding instrumentals, beautiful close harmony singing and magi-cal dub wise!
The band consist of about 9 men, who all have long experience on either Ska, Rocksteady or Reggae, each and everyone of them true lovers of original music and all very skilful and well specialised within their own discipline. The cream of the crop so they say!
Watching 'Rude Rich and the High Notes' perform live, one will experience a total tribute to the original 'yardsound' from those days and it's great originators, in the form of well and less known 'riddims', sometimes spiced and blended with a little 'High Notes' feel and flavour. It's created also by some por-tions of Soul which the band added already to their newest record "Soul Stomp", a little masterpiece with incredibly catchy harmonies and this groovy Soul and Rocksteady tunes.
So really and truly, exclusively for your musical pleasure, check out 'Rude Rich and the High Notes' and board this train for a journey from station to station, rocking the nation with version! One love! and respect!
