A
new band from Cologne?
Yes,
as GERRY LEE & THE WANTED MEN formed only a short while ago and
their musical mix of Swing, Country and Rockabilly is rarely heard
over here.
But
most of the members are well known for their long time musicianship.
Drummer Matt Trashnick and double bass player Bullfiddle Winston
Friday are both known for their activity in the Ska band Monkey
Shop and various other local acts. The Lapsteel guitar is played
by 'Surf legend' Jancee Warnick, who is a part of Cologne‘s Country
Rock scene, and so is Philipp Janssen on rhythm guitar. Rainer Schröter,
known as a gifted banjo player, is responsible for the fast fingered
jazzy guitar solos. Last but not least there is GERRY LEE. He was
mastermind, singer and guitarist of Sister Elvis and Monkey Shop
(ELM-CD 1001; CD/LP 1004) and has already hundreds of shows under
his cartridge belt.
With the WANTED MEN, he goes back to his basics with his personal
favourites, recalling the days when a guitar still was a guitar
... Beside their self-penned compositions they’re playing songs
from Bob Wills, Bill Monroe, Hank and Tex Williams, Johnny Cash
or Roy Hogsed - always performed with lots of energy and professionalism
... and with more stringed instruments than Molly Hatchet (!).
Their general motto - not only for their live shows - is to have
fun and make the people swing. Even on their brandnew debut album
„Framed„ (ELM-CD/-LP 1010), these six guys present all the skills
necessary for a catchy „Honkytonk Attack„ - their so-called club
events in Cologne’s MTC.
The harmonic singing and the rich guitar sounds are not only enjoyed
by Cowboys and Hilbilly Girls, but by everybody who likes to dance.
And
don’t forget: If the WANTED MEN can't make you swing - you're already
dead !!!
